About The Role:
 
Our Energy business unit has an exciting opportunity for a Carbon Manager who in line with requirements of Morgan Sindall Infrastructure (MSI) and the Energy Director of Engineering and Technical Services, will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to reduce the Energy Business Unit’s carbon footprint, ensuring compliance with sustainability regulations, and driving carbon reduction initiatives.

About You:

We’re looking for a sustainability champion with:

  • A degree (or equivalent experience) in environmental science, sustainability, civil engineering, or a related science-based field (BSc).

  • Practitioner-level membership of a relevant professional body (IEMA, RICS, ICE), working towards chartership status.

  • Experience conducting whole-life carbon assessments and using carbon measurement tools.

  • Strong knowledge of carbon accounting and sustainability reporting frameworks (ISO 14064, GHG Protocol).

  • Familiarity with PAS 2080:2023 and its application in carbon management for buildings and infrastructure.

  • Experience working with pre-contract teams, contributing to bid workshops, innovation development, and preparing responses to showcase company capabilities.

  • A solid understanding of civil engineering principles, project lifecycles, and design stages.

  • A must-have: Experience delivering Carbon Literacy training.

What You’ll Be Doing

As Carbon Manager, you will:

  • Develop & Implement Strategy – Lead the Energy business unit’s carbon reduction strategy in line with MSI objectives and PAS 2080 KPIs.

  • Assess & Report Carbon Footprint – Conduct whole-life carbon assessments using tools such as Carbonica, National Grid online tools, or client-specific platforms.

  • Drive Carbon Reduction – Identify and recommend sustainable materials and low-carbon construction methods.

  • Ensure Compliance – Maintain alignment with environmental regulations, industry standards, and best practices.

  • Training & Culture Building – Deliver carbon literacy training to enhance understanding across teams and foster a carbon-conscious culture.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration – Work with clients, designers, and internal teams to integrate carbon reduction initiatives into project planning and design.

  • Performance Monitoring – Track and report progress towards carbon reduction targets, leveraging lessons learned from past projects to continuously improve.

 

Wider Responsibilities

  • Embed Carbon Reduction in Operations – Collaborate with operational and client teams to drive sustainability across our energy projects.

  • Work Winning & Business Development – Ensure carbon reduction principles are built into the bidding and project planning processes.

  • Subject Matter Expertise – Represent MSI as a carbon expert in client meetings and external engagements.

  • Measurement & Reporting – Develop and implement robust tracking frameworks to monitor and actively reduce carbon emissions.

  • Innovation & Knowledge Sharing – Host carbon opportunity workshops, share best practices, and drive continuous improvement.

About our Energy business

We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.

Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair and refurbishment services.
