Job description
This is a technical role responsible for delivering defined engineering and construction tasks in accordance with company procedures and industry standards. Operating within a structured framework, the individual will receive clear guidance while exercising autonomy in managing their workload and making discipline-specific decisions under the direction of senior management.
The role involves supervising trade teams and delivering engineering and construction services across site-based projects. It encompasses full accountability for the delivery of construction activities within a designated geographical area, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards, while optimising resource use and controlling costs.
As a Senior Project Engineer, the individual will lead the electrical scope of one or more projects, overseeing design development, procurement, installation, testing, commissioning, and documentation. They will provide proactive input into programme planning and commercial activities, ensuring alignment with project objectives and customer expectations.
The role also carries responsibility for maintaining a safe and compliant working environment, meeting all relevant safety, environmental, engineering, and customer standards, and contributing to the achievement of performance targets and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical construction expertise across design, procurement, manufacture, installation, commissioning, and handover stages, ensuring constructability, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with contract requirements and applicable legislation.
- Represent the construction function within the project team, supporting integration of work package scope and contributing to SL gated processes, HAZCON, HAZOP, HAZCOM, CDM duties, and risk management activities.
- Lead and support procurement activities including scoping, supplier selection, quotation evaluation, and subcontractor management to ensure delivery against budget, schedule, safety, and quality standards.
- Assure and produce key project deliverables such as scope documents, cost and schedule estimates, safety method statements, work safety plans, and tender packages.
- Oversee and assure multiple work packages through manufacture, installation, testing, commissioning, and handover, implementing progressive assurance programmes and ensuring SQEP compliance.
- Coordinate and control mechanical and electrical activities including testing, commissioning, routine maintenance, defect management, and process operation, supervising subcontractors where required.
- Ensure systems support UKCA/CE marking and conform to relevant standards and regulations.
- Monitor and influence schedule performance, proactively adjusting plans to meet project milestones and outcomes.
- Provide technical support to design teams, reviewing buildability and existing plant conditions, and expediting subcontractor designs and off-site works.
- Deliver all works in line with the Perfect Delivery model, achieving safety, quality, schedule, and customer satisfaction targets.
- Maintain accurate progress reports and records for safety, contractual, and quality purposes in line with the PPP Collaborative Management Plan.
- Promote a safety and environmentally conscious culture across all staff and subcontractors.
- Provide line management, coaching, and development for team members.
- Develop and manage customer, stakeholder, and partner relationships to ensure satisfaction and repeat business.
Requirements
- BTEC HNC in engineering of specific discipline (or equivalent).
- CITB site managers safety training scheme.
- CSCS Site Supervisor – Gold Card.
- Proficient in materials and subcontract letting and subcontract management.
- Proficient in managing site construction and installation.
- Proficient knowledge of health and safety and environmental legislation.
- Knowledge of construction contracts and procedures.
- Ability to work in a team environment contributing across a business unit or area.
- Good management skills, with the ability to motivate self and colleagues to achieve high standards of compliance.
- Good operational planning and time management skills; able to manage projects simultaneously without compromising on standards and quality.
- Ability to ensure standards and specifications are met.
- Ability to work with colleagues to deliver project and operational performance.
- Sound knowledge of construction practices and standards.
- Specialist knowledge in chosen field.
