Senior Quantity Surveyor
Cumbria
We are looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Ednup team on the ISA framework.
Key Responsibilities:
Commercial & Contract Management
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting across all commercial activities
- Meet project and programme targets for contract, cost, quality, and time
- Prepare and manage subcontract accounts, including procurement, variations, and final accounts
- Ensure all subcontracts meet company standards and commercial issues are resolved promptly
- Submit main contract payment applications and ensure fair, timely subcontractor payments
- Identify, raise, and price variations in line with change control processes
- Maximise value recovery through accurate measurement of completed works
- Forecast and report costs against value to align with profitability targets
- Ensure commercial data accuracy within Sphere project management software
- Maintain and coordinate all commercial reports required for effective contract management
Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise, mentor, and support junior staff in their professional development (PDPs, welfare, safety, and competency)
- Manage, train, and advise direct reports, fostering a high-performance culture
- Take shared responsibility for health, safety, and environmental standards, providing commercial support
Collaboration & Communication
- Build strong relationships with the Delivery Manager to meet area goals and support customer engagement
- Liaise with the Office Manager to ensure cost accuracy and best practice in material procurement
- Work with the Performance Analyst to prepare run rate data, weekly gang P&L, plant spend, KPIs, and delivery metrics
- Provide key commercial insights and updates across the contract team
- Ensure compliance with DELAPs and contract process maps
Financial & Operational Oversight
- Coordinate track sheet accuracy through to invoicing, ensuring WIP and cash targets are met
- Resolve subcontractor issues, escalating to the Commercial Manager where appropriate
- Provide training and support on contract terms and schedule of rates to maximise value recovery
Essential Skills, Attributes & Qualifications:
- Professional Qualifications: Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (or equivalent experience); ideally chartered or working towards RICS/CICES accreditation
- Commercial Acumen: Strong understanding of NEC contracts, cost control, forecasting, and value recovery
- Leadership: Proven experience in managing and developing teams, with a focus on mentoring and performance management
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and make informed decisions
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across functions
- Organisation: Strong planning and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines
- IT Proficiency: Competent in commercial systems (e.g. Sphere, Excel) and confident in using digital tools for reporting and analysis
- Problem Solving: A proactive approach to resolving issues and driving continuous improvement
- Compliance & Integrity: A strong understanding of governance, process adherence, and ethical commercial practice
