Help us deliver projects that make a difference.

Morgan Sindall Infrastructure works on some of the UK’s most important and complex infrastructure projects. We connect people, places and communities through safe, sustainable and innovative solutions. Our people are at the heart of everything we do.

We’re part of Morgan Sindall Group plc, a leading UK construction and regeneration business with a £3bn+ turnover — and we’re growing.

We’re now looking for a Commercial Manager to join our team in Cumbria, supporting a major programme within the PPP partnership.

Why this role matters

As a Commercial Manager, you’ll lead day‑to‑day commercial activity on a project within the PPP portfolio. You’ll provide confident, clear commercial guidance while helping shape strategy, strengthen governance, and drive performance.

You’ll work closely with your Project Commercial Lead and multidisciplinary teams to ensure commercial excellence across cost, risk, margin, and supply chain engagement.

What you’ll be doing

Commercial leadership

  • Lead the commercial function on a daily basis, ensuring full compliance with contract terms, governance, and project procedures.
  • Provide clear commercial insight and recommendations to support strategic decision‑making.
  • Continuously improve commercial processes to keep them robust and efficient.

Team leadership

  • Manage and develop the project commercial team.
  • Set expectations, review performance, and support career development.
  • Promote continuous improvement and learning from experience.

Commercial controls & reporting

  • Own all internal commercial reporting: CVRs, forecasts, margin reporting and KPIs.
  • Ensure all data is accurate, validated and delivered on time.
  • Lead preparation of monthly applications for payment and client reporting.

Contract management & procurement

  • Act as first point of escalation for contractual issues.
  • Develop subcontract terms aligned to project strategy.
  • Work closely with procurement teams to secure timely, commercially strong packages.

Risk, opportunity & performance

  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Partner with technical leads on supply chain performance and compliance.
  • Drive delivery of commercial targets across cost, cashflow, margin and risk.

What we’re looking for

Essential

  • Significant experience leading commercial teams on large, complex projects (£100m+).
  • Strong understanding of major contract forms (NEC3/4, JCT or equivalent).
  • Proven experience developing commercial strategies and procurement approaches.
  • Confident communicator able to present to senior leadership.
  • Broad commercial skill set including forecasting, cost control, governance and assurance.
  • Ability to obtain (or currently hold) suitable security clearance.

Preferred

  • Experience in nuclear, defence, rail, utilities or other regulated sectors.
  • Chartered status (RICS, CIOB or equivalent) or working towards it.

What’s in it for you?

✅ Generous holiday allowance (with option to buy extra days)
✅ Family‑friendly policies and support
✅ Mentoring and continuous learning opportunities
✅ Contributory pension scheme
✅ Annual bonus scheme
✅ Flexible benefits including cycle‑to‑work, gym discounts and more
✅ Recognition and long‑service awards

We also offer mental-health support and wellbeing services for you and your family.
