You will be degree qualified from an approved/registered University Course as set out by the Engineering Council and a Professional body

 Working closely with the Engineer, as a key member of the design team, developing design solutions for structures in the Built Environment.

  • Thermal IES modelling
  • To provide appropriate levels of mechanical building services design to a range of different building types
  • Works to own initiative and required to supervise trainees & technicians

To be able to lead and manage small packages of work

Principal responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Liaise with other team members in a multi-disciplinary environment to achieve holistic building solutions to client brief
  • Design and specify aspects of building services in accordance with current guidelines, standards and regulations
  • Maintain a knowledge of current issues related to general construction and specifically building services guidelines, standards and regulations
  • Participate in effective presentations to external organisations, clients and peer groups
  • Contribute to the development of the Building Services Department as required
  • Ensure quality of delivery.
  • Prepare for internal design reviews.
  • Undertake all actions identified in design review.
  • Undertake design for a wide range of project types and sizes.
  • Take a flexible approach to the delivery of design solutions
  • Communicate with the departmental management to ensure that resource requirements are clearly understood.
  • Provide support to trainees in their professional development.
  • Provide feedback on the performance of the department from a technical and operational perspective.
  • Provide feedback on where departmental development would benefit project delivery.
  • Participate in knowledge sharing across team and locations.
  • Attend and present in-house design courses and seminars.
  • Keep up to date with design trends/competitor awareness /design techniques.

Qualifications and training

  • B Eng. M Eng. or MSc
  • Ideally registered with the engineering council at Eng. Tech

Technical skills and experience

  • Experience in IES modelling
  • Aware of technical and legislation requirements for services equipment and installation design and management
  • Ability to understand and approve technical calculations performed by junior engineering staff
  • Understanding of designing to achieve BREEAM ratings
  • Experience of Dynamic Thermal Modelling and CFD would be an advantage have good numerical/maths skills

  • Duties may include:
    • Preparation of simple calculations
    • General sizing calculations
    • Production of manual and CAD (Computer Aided Design) drawings
    • Site visits
    • Site surveys
    • Contributing to providing solutions to design problems
    • Ensuring designs meet required standards
    • Keeping your training log up to date and attending training/CPDs where appropriate
    • Supporting the administration of projects
