We have a fantastic opportunity within our head office for an ambitious and talented Assistant Buyer. 

The successful candidate will be joining the existing team of passionate and dedicated procurement professionals. 

The right applicant will have the ability to procure materials, goods and services to programme and to the commercial advantage of the company and report as directed and provide input into pre-construction process as directed.

Responsibilities: 

As an Assistant Buyer you will:

  • Purchase materials to specification
  • Ensure supply to programme
  • Maximise profitability and minimise risk
  • Help achieve Perfect Delivery
  • Maintain existing supply base
  • Control and report on budgetary status on individual projects as required
  • Promote improvements to and ensure compliance with safety, health, sustainability and quality requirements and expectations
  • Ensure compliance of materials and services to specification
  • Utilise standard documentation
  • Adhere to “Delegated Authorities”
  • Comply with group and business unit supply chain
  • Prepare and issue reports as required
  • Input to pre-construction process as required
  • Identify and agree personal objectives and development needs through appraisal system
  • Proactively develop market and technical awareness
  • Support colleagues in their roles
  • Support purchasing strategy
  • Promote professional behaviour/ethical approach
  • Monitor and feedback on supplier performance
  • Ensure regular communication with suppliers
  • Undertake problem resolution and seek support, where appropriate
  • Deputise during absence of colleagues
  • Recommend new supplier relationships 

Already having some experience within a Buying environment, you will be working towards membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) or equivalent qualification, knowledge, skills and training. Some experience in Construction/Civil engineering procurement is required for this role. 

About the Team: 

The central procurement team is made up of 11 buyers and 4 database administrators working across all sections of Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure business.

This includes the low value procurement of materials and plant and the efficient, effective management of the central supplier database.
