Design Manager – Level 1 - Highways

Location: London / Essex / Cambridgeshire

Talented people are the key to our success

About us:

Would you like to work for a progressive and ambitious company which is also one of the most successful within the UK construction and infrastructure industry?

Morgan Sindall provides national construction and infrastructure services to private and public sector customers across a comprehensive range of markets. We aim to create great results for our customers, partners and ourselves.

Opportunity:

We have a fantastic opportunity within our Infrastructure business for an ambitious and talented Design Manager to work on our Eastern Highways Framework.

We are looking for a Design Manager to manage the design aspects of tenders and projects in progress and have the ability to lead and provide a professional, comprehensive and sustainable design management service to the projects.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within a successful, growing and exciting team.

The projects:

Stanford Le Hope Transport Package, Essex

The project for Thurrock Borough Council is procured through the Eastern Highways Alliance Framework.

It involves the creation of a multimodal transport interchange and new railway station that will meet the needs of increased station patronage.

This will involve the demolition of the existing station building at Stanford Le Hope.

The new development will be formed on a steel framed support raft founded on pile foundations alongside the existing railway lines.

The Multimodal interchange consists of new passenger drop off provision, taxi rank, protected pedestrian walking routes, double-decker bus stops with waiting facilities and secure cycle parking spaces.

Railway Station will consist of a steel framed building to both platforms 1 and 2 with integrated pedestrian footbridge and lifts together with improved customer and commercial facilities.

Old Street, London

The Old Street roundabout project is the first contract let by TfL as part of their Civil Projects Framework.

The scheme will remove the existing one-way operation of the signalised Old Street roundabout to improve cycle and pedestrian facilities, reduce collisions and provide an enhanced urban realm.

The roundabout island will be removed to form a new peninsula style junction, similar to that recently constructed in 2016 at the Elephant & Castle junction in Southwark.

The Works will entail major realignment of the carriageway and significant modifications to the subways and station entrances to facilitate the widened carriageways and segregated cycle lanes.

The new formed peninsula will provide an open pedestrianized area with additional seating and retail facilities.

Responsibilities:

As a Design Manager you will:

  • Scope of design required including permanent and temporary works
  • CDM requirements
  • Outline design philosophy

The right applicant will have experience on key sectors – Highways, structures, rail, and buildings. Ideally the candidate will have career experience in delivering construction projects or working in a design environment. The candidate will have recent experience of managing multi-disciplinary design for design and build project of reasonable size and complexity.

Membership of relevant Professional Institute i.e. ICE, CIOB and HND/HNC/Degree is also required.
