Opportunity: 

We have a fantastic opportunity within our Highways business for an ambitious and talented Apprentice Quantity Surveyor to be split between 2 projects; the A421 and A414. 

The successful candidate will be joining the existing team of passionate and dedicated Surveyors working together on this innovative project. 

As an apprentice quantity surveyor, you will assist with the commercial management of a project, administer, measure and value elements of the project, take off quantities from construction drawings, ensure payment applications are submitted by cut-off date and all subcontract documents for approval by deadline including assisting in the control of various subcontract packages from enquiry through to final account. 

We are looking for people who share our passion for the project at hand whilst also being able to work within a fun and hardworking team environment. 

Responsibilities: 

As an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor you will:

  • Maintain high personal safety and environmental standards in accordance with company policy
  • Undertake costing activities, under direction, utilising a sound working knowledge of the cost coding structure for the project
  • Measure completed works for allocated sections of the project, for interim and final accounts, including recording agreements with client and/or subcontract representatives

As an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, you will possess the minimum qualifications to enable you to obtain a place on an agreed day release course at a local college or university.  Our training scheme offers on the job training plus day-release college attendance to pursue an appropriate qualification. You will be required to have a grade C in GCSE or equivalent.

About the project: 

The Eastern Highways Alliance (EHA) is a group of 11 local authorities in the east of England. Its aim is to support the EHA Members to achieve better quality highway, public realm and infrastructure schemes at lower cost by combining and sharing resources. The EHA Members have agreed that this is best achieved by implementation of best practice principles. They are looking for partners who support this vision with a streamlined supply chain as well as building the skills of EHF2’s supply chain to support delivery.

The Framework is valued at £750 million over a four year period. The Framework started in April 2016 but had a slow start during 2016. Since the start of 2017 the pipeline of opportunities has grown and currently Contractors have visibility of approximately £450 million of Projects.

Morgan Sindall is the most successful Contractor on the framework having been awarded three projects with a combined project value of £22 million. A further £50 million over four Projects is currently being tendered (July 2017) and it is envisage that this level of tender opportunity will continue through 2018 and 2019.
