We have fantastic opportunities within our Rail business for ambitious and talented Quantity Surveyors based out of Kings Cross.
The successful candidate will be joining the existing team of passionate and dedicated Surveyors & Commercial experts working together in this exciting and growing business unit.
We are looking for Quantity Surveyors who have a wealth of Rail and heavy Civils experience, Network Rail knowledge is advantageous.
Due to a high volume of expected tender opportunities requiring quantity take offs within the Rail business, the team are looking to recruit Quantity Surveyors to maintain commercial information to the contract, satisfying the needs of both the customer and Morgan Sindall in terms of reporting contract commercial performance.

Responsibilities:
As a Quantity Surveyor you will:
- Contribute to achieving the appropriate commercial result through the provision of accurate financial reporting
- Manage subcontractor supplier accounts, financially and contractually, in order to secure full entitlements under the contract
- Understand fully the customer’s needs and ensure effective relationships are built and maintained by consistently high customer service and on site delivery
- Provide support to the site team on contract requirements
- Identify, secure and deliver the business forecast in both turnover and margin
- Place subcontract orders in accordance with the main contract and manage subcontractor accounts ensuring payments are timely and correct and any other commercial issues are resolved
- Monitor subcontractor against programme
- Obtain the most competitive quotes by understanding current market trends
- Assist in the production of cost value reconciliation reports and forecast cash recovery and ensure that both are kept In line with target
- Ensure applications for payment and invoices are completed and submitted to ensure payment is made to terms and within work in progress (WIP) and cash targets
Already experienced as Quantity Surveyor you will be educated to HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying (or other commercially related discipline) and RICS accredited. Experience in commercial management of sub-contractors, including chairing regular meetings, measurement and control cycle, certificates, accrual calculations and value allocation is required, and previous experience with COINS would be advantageous.
The Project:
Kings Cross - Kings Cross Remodelling is a key rail scheme on the Governments Railway Improvement Programme. King’s Cross station throat and approaches are to be remodelled including new track layout, new Overhead Line Electrification (OLE) and modified platforms to suit to modified track layout, and a new conventional signalling system controlled from York Regional Operating Centre (ROC). Key benefits following the works will be an increase in the reliability of Track, Signalling and Control System assets. This Project is due for completion for 2020

Our Electrification team provides services across the UK, with a base in Ware, Hertfordshire supported by a specialist electrification training centre and plant depot at Swynnerton, Staffordshire, and Scotland depot at Larkhall, South Lanarkshire.
Our expertise is focused not only on effective project delivery but also on minimising railway user and environmental disruption through innovative working practices. These include ‘live launch’ bridge construction - where bridges are installed while railways beneath remain operational and ‘offline’ construction and modularisation techniques within stations.
