Summary of role

An enthusiastic individual to lead, create, promote and manage the Digital Implementation strategy and approach across Morgan Sindall’s four Infrastructure Business Units. The role requires practical knowledge and experience of design management, digital delivery of projects over the life cycle, PAS 1192 compliance, BIM software and tools and the ability to focus on the benefits Digital Engineering can add, thereby enthusing and supporting others in its adoption and use.

Responsibilities and accountabilities

Leadership of the digital implementation function across our Infrastructure business including implementation strategy, standards, processes, procedures, software, management and marketing

Transitioning existing design management function and practitioners into a digital environment

Determine current and forecast future demand for digital engineering and implications for the business and create business cases for areas of development.

Identify opportunities, risks and reasons for change in relation to Digital Engineering, with appropriate response strategies, plans and actions

Create standard Digital Engineering offers to clients and help stakeholders understand the benefits of working in digital and reasons for adoption

Joint ownership and development of our PAS1192 Certification with our colleagues in Morgan Sindall Construction

Development and agreement of clear Digital / BIM Implementation strategies at Business Unit, Tender and Project level.

Demonstrate the organisations success by setting and evaluating progress against our digital goals and implementation strategy.

Work with Business Units, project and tender teams to implement and grow BIM adoption.

Assist in preparing, developing or reviewing BIM manuals and BIM implementation plans and documentation in accordance with our PAS 1192 certification.

Ensure effective establishment of Common Data Environments and Information control protocols

Ensure internal teams and external design consultants and customers verify  integrity of models and model attributes

Work with key clients to help develop their Digital requirements

Lead on Training, mentoring and guidance of others in implementing BIM / Digital Engineering in the business

Reporting, monitoring and auditing the implementation of the Digital Engineering strategy by Business Units, by setting KPI’s and communication to senior members of staff

Review, research and establish the most appropriate and best value BIM Tools, technologies and software’s for the business

Increasing the skills, knowledge and ability of our people and our supply chain to embrace Digital Engineering and harness its benefits

Providing a best value approach to our clients through; Reducing risk through collaboration and use digital technologies, Increased efficiency over the life cycle of the asset by providing accurate asset data, Improving the quality of both the physical and digital assets

Working with other functions (preconstruction, planning, commercial, project management) to understand their needs in implementing digital engineering and technologies.

 

Qualifications, training and technical knowledge

Educated to degree level or equivalent in relevant field for example Civil Engineering, BIM or Design Management.

Civil Engineering infrastructure project management, design management and digital experience (as opposed to Building)

Previous involvement with the implementation of BIM on a National, Regional or Project level.

Significant Experienced in Design Management with Digital / BIM experience

Good technical command of a range of BIM software and technologies

Proficiency in some of: AECOsim, Bentley Navigator, Synchro, Solibri  Sketch Up, Revizto, Tekla, 3D Studio max, FARO Scene, Pointfuse and augmented reality packages

Have a working knowledge of BS 1192, PAS 1192-2, COBie, Government Construction Strategy 2020/ 2025 and other BIM standards and best practice.

Willing and open mind, able to enthusiastically embrace and apply BIM technologies

Understanding of how 3D models are created and how to navigate and verify BIM data.

A demonstrable understanding of the Common Data Environment

Detailed knowledge of different needs of the delivery team (designers, engineers, estimators, planners and contractors). 

Understanding of how BIM data links together across software platforms and BIM dimensions; 2D, 3D, 4D, 5D, 6D and field BIM

 

Attributes and skills

Passion to create, lead and implement digital implementation and design strategies at Business Unit and Project level

Good communication and presentation skills and the ability to eloquently present to peers, client and internal teams.

Good technical detailing and specification writing experience

Good technical and cultural experience of BIM implementation

Good team management skills

Some on site project experience

Passion to create, lead and own our digital strategy and drive value adding digital uptake

Drive and enthusiasm to develop others use of BIM software and technologies

Good communication and presentation skills and the ability to eloquently present to peers, client and internal teams.

Good time and cost management skills - plan and achieve delivery to the desired quality to exceed client expectations

The role is intended to provide close support to tendering and project teams distributed across the UK as they develop BIM capability and as such will require some travel and occasional overnight hotel stays
