Responsibilities:

As a Quality Engineer, you will help to protect Morgan Sindall’s interests throughout the construction process.

The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:

  • A good general understanding of the specific construction inspection process, in particular around the inspection of materials, installation and quality of work.
  • An understanding of the obligations of all parties, including requirements and boundaries.
  • The foresight to identify issues or potential issues and the ability to suggest alternative methods or mitigation techniques.
  • A focus on quality, reducing the need for reworking and double handling.
  • Impartiality, offering a fair, considered and independent approach to ensuring value for money.
  • An awareness of acceptable standards, benchmarking and identifying where work does not conform to regulation.
  • The ability to record findings concisely.
  • The ability to offer a professional opinion and recommend alternative approaches and corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of construction materials and components, including their use, limitations and possible alternatives.
  • An understanding and knowledge of the practical and legal aspects of health and safety.

 

 

Duties relating to the role include:

 

  • Ensuring that a consistently high standard of quality control is maintained on the project.  
  • Identifying technical problems and recommend corrective action where required.
  • Maintaining an Inspection & Test Plan tracker to ensure that all ITP’s are subjected to the correct level of review and acceptance.
  • Liaising with the project team and subcontractor representatives to develop and review ITP’s.
  • Monitoring progress of all ITP’s to ensure that relevant checks and inspections are carried out and records maintained.
  • Carrying out site quality inspections and reporting back to the project team and client.
  • Undertaking quality checks as the works progresses, in line with ITP’s / National Grid Transmission Procedures.
  • Maintaining an NCR register, which is used to manage project quality nonconformities.
  • Liaising with the project team and subcontractor representatives to manage effective closure of nonconformities.
  • Maintaining a Supply Chain Tracker, which provides oversight of all subcontractors appointed on the project.
  • Attending project quality meetings with the client and address any resulting actions.
  • Attending subcontractor pre-start meetings to ensure relevant quality aspects are covered.
  • Attending weekly progress meetings.
  • Undertaking any other tasks as deemed necessary and required by the Project Manager
