Are you looking for a unique opportunity where you can use your existing skills and talent to make a real difference to the community and sustainably improve the lives of people living and working in Cumbria?

All Together Cumbria (ATC) are seeking a Community Skills Advisor who will be responsible for the delivery and implementation of our Industry Skills Brokerage Project.

Community Skills Advisor

The Community Skills Advisor is responsible for managing the Industry Skills Project to facilitate and increase the availability of skilled and competent people to support a wide range of industries across Cumbria. This will be done by implementing a ‘One window’ view of further education, training and employment opportunities enabling ‘access for all’ to meaningful provision and employment opportunities. This is a new project, so we are looking for someone who is flexible and used to working in a project development role.

You will be an excellent communicator and be able to develop collaborative relationships with a variety of key stakeholders, including industry professionals and provision providers for both Social Justice and Education and Training. You will have excellent project management skills and be able to offer solutions to influence the project and its management.

Community Skills Advisor is responsible for:

  • Developing a register of all the social justice, education and training and voluntary organisation provision providers in Cumbria and maintaining the database in a suitable format
  • Developing and maintaining an Industry Skills Journey Map to mentor, guide and signpost individuals to identified provision providers and programmes to enable and empower them into sustainable meaningful education, training and employment
  • Mentor and support individuals who are wanting to upskill so that they can move themselves forward either into or within the labour market
  • Work with the local communities to conduct needs assessments that includes input from people who are unemployed or who are in employment and wanting to upskill
  • Proactively monitor the Industry Skills Project progress, resolving issues and initiating appropriate corrective action
  • Ensuring effective quality assurance and the overall integrity of the project
  • Work with the Industry Skill Brokerage Manager to ensure the Industry Pathways are aligned to the needs of industry
  • Managing and reporting the Industry Skills Project benefits to the Industry Skills Brokerage Manager
  • Managing communications with all stakeholders
  • Highlight and report any risks to the project’s successful outcome
  • Work with the Industry Skills Brokerage Manager on developing new project initiatives
  • Embedding new projects and initiatives into business as usual
  • Assist in driving change internally and externally

Key skills/requirements

  • Passionate and committed to improving the lives of people living and working in Cumbria
  • Effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good knowledge of techniques for planning, monitoring and controlling projects
  • Good research and analysis of key data and reporting skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective new relationships (external & internal) and identify new opportunities aligned to ATC Social Impact Strategy
  • Able to positively influence others without authority to create a sense of community amongst key stakeholders/partners of the broader project teams and wider community
  • An enhanced DBS Check will be required for this post.
  • As the position requires travel to remote areas, driving license is essential
