Description

The South Wales and South West region are looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team to take full commercial control of our Drummond Park project in Tidworth near Andover.

The successful SQS candidate will report directly to a Managing QS.  They will be expected to be hands on whilst carrying out the full range of quantity surveying duties, Including day to day cost control, cash management, subcontractor procurement & management, including chairing regular meetings, risk management, financial reporting (CVR/PPR), preparation of valuations (internal/external), record keeping, general administration, including completion of client and sub-contract final accounts, and the recovery / discharge of all retentions.

The position will involve working within a busy Quantity Surveying department on new build schemes. The candidate will ideally have experience in upfront land acquisitions and worked on negotiated contract and competitive tendered D&B schemes, but is not essential. Experience and a passion for developing and mentoring junior staff will be a requirement of this role.

Additionally the candidate will need to be willing to get involved with pre tender works estimating and contractual works, as required.  This may include assisting estimators, commenting on contractual documents and general pre tender reviews. The candidate will have the drive and ambition and be willing to take ownership of a scheme (s), to progress opportunities towards a start on site.

Previous experience with ASTA & COINS would be advantageous.

A current driving licence, CSCS card and a work permit are essential.

Preferably experienced as a Senior Quantity Surveyor you will be educated to BSc in Quantity Surveying (or other commercially related discipline) and ideally RICS / CIOB accredited with demonstrable experience within the residential and commercial sectors on new build schemes.

Excellent communication skills are critical to this role and the candidate must be able to adapt within a vibrant team that exists.  The role will involve liaison with internal customers, clients, and the supply chain.  The successful candidate will have;

  • A track record in commercial management from within a recognised contracting organisation.
  • Experience working with a number of clients and building relationships with external customers.
  • Experience of new build contracting.
  • Experience of various Contract forms.
  • Confident negotiator who is able to agree rates/prices without compromising company margins.
  • Have a good knowledge in terms of regulations, current materials, rates, prices along with good commercial awareness.
  • Be an excellent communicator.
  • A driven individual who will lead their team (within department) to achieve the targets, whilst also assisting in achieving the targets of the project(s) and wider company.
