We have a fantastic opportunity within our Construction business for an ambitious and talented Senior Safety, Health and Environmental Advisor.

The successful candidate will be joining the existing team of passionate and dedicated SHE professionals.

We are looking for people who have a wealth of knowledge in the main contracting market.

Experience of working on Educational, Healthcare, Leisure or Defence schemes between £5 and £20 million is an advantage.

Responsibilities:

As a senior safety, health and environmental advisor you will:

  • Set and maintain standards of safety, health, environment (SHE) practice and deliver relevant awareness training to internal staff and contractors as appropriate in accordance with Morgan Sindall and customer requirements
  • Ensure SHEQ procedures are regularly developed to meet and exceed internal and external customer expectations and to legislation and Morgan Sindall standards
  • Promote individual awareness of the importance of SHE and to create an environment that generates automatically, a high focus on health, safety and environmental awareness
  • Provide advice and support management teams, employees and those working with us supporting 100% SAFE and our total commitment to sustainability
  • Support and advise all Morgan Sindall management, staff, and those working with us, in regards our action/improvement plans and measures for minimising risk
  • Carry out appropriate monitoring at work locations
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities and professional bodies
  • Ensure compliance with Morgan Sindall SHE management system and associated arrangements
  • Contribute to the development of the SHE strategy and management system including review and feedback on improvements
  • Understand the importance of communicating safety with management teams and individuals and act accordingly
  • Compile and analyse local SHEQ statistical information and support the development of action and improvement plans
  • Monitor competencies of all staff and provide advice on any shortfalls
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with other SHE staff, directors and their teams regarding all SHE matters
  • Carry out safety training in line with Morgan Sindall requirements and employee needs
  • Share learning and good practices both locally, regionally and across Morgan Sindall
  • Maintain professional development regarding legislation, technology and industry best practices
  • Be supportive of a team-work approach to encourage cooperative working by being open and honest
  • Constructively challenge and intervene where our ‘safe’ value is being compromised
  • Create and maintain positive customer-focused relationships with regulatory authorities, internal and external customers and other stakeholders
  • Participate in the promotion of safety programmes and schemes that may be developed on a local and business unit level
  • Ensure training provided by external training organisations is competent and delivered effectively to meet our objectives

Already experienced as a Senior SHE Advisor you will hold as a minimum NEBOSH certificate or appropriate Health and Safety qualification, and ideally also hold an environmental qualification. Experienced in the design and delivery of safety training programmes, preferably be a trained auditor with a sound knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation, occupational health and behavioural based safety. Be self-motivated, to constantly improve upon established safety standards.

About the Scotland Team:

The Scotland Regional business mainly operates from our central office at Eurocentral near Mothwerwell, with the majority of our projects across the central belt of Scotland, however we do also operate an office in Inverness which services a number of projects within the Highland region. The SHE function supports all Morgan Sindall Construction projects across Scotland. The current secured portfolio of work is varied and challenging and includes primary education, primary health care and long-term residential care facilities together with future workload that encompasses all market sectors.

We are delighted to be Tier 1 contractors on both Hub West and Hub South West and are also currently partners on both the Edinburgh City Council and North Lanarkshire Schools and Centres 21 Frameworks which will be continuing to provide excellent opportunities for our business for another three to four years.  Our short to medium business plan going forward is to consolidate our business further in the Scotland by securing projects in Edinburgh, Ayrshire and Fife maintaining our relationship with Public Sector clients but growing our portfolio of commercial clients.  We are looking for talent and ambitious people who share our passion about delivering high quality and iconic buildings while delighting our customers and growing their careers in the process.
