About the role

As a Principal Engineer – Civil & Structural, you are expected to have a strong track record in one or, ideally, multiple sectors that BakerHicks operates in. You will be a Chartered Engineer with experience of managing medium-size projects or managing packages on large projects. You’ll lead and develop an enthusiastic and committed team of Engineers and Technicians to deliver high quality output on projects and support the Associates in day-to-day management of the local C&S team. Client care and repeat business is crucial to BakerHicks’ success, so you’ll need to be able to develop and nurture relationships with our clients (both internal and external).

 

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Provide engineering design and consultancy services on behalf of BakerHicks under the direction of the line manager or project lead.
  • Management of design deliverables (including drawings, specifications and reports), site surveys, construction stage duties, client liaison with members of design/ construction teams, project management, costing and ensure progress against the project brief.
  • Check calculations and production of detailed drawings to ensure engineering designs meet appropriate quality and compliance controls, project brief and customer requirements.
  • Time, cost, quality, resource and delivery management including communication with the department and management to ensure that resource and project requirements are clearly understood and met.
  • Produce comprehensive civil and structural design packages for all aspects of civil and structural design.
  • Lead the delivery of civil and structural design packages across multiple projects, as part of a single or multi discipline design team, carry out any or all stages of civil and structural design from concept to completion across sectors including rail, science and technology, waste to energy, aviation and healthcare.

 

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Chartered Member of ICE or IStructE (or Equivalent)
  • Significant experience of delivering projects in at least one sector that BakerHicks operates in, including managing commercial elements of projects.

 

Desirable:

  • Carry out technical design reviews/critiques of projects in process
  • Assist in the mentoring and development of more junior engineers including training and planning
  • Fully Conversant with current codes, standards and responsibilities under CDM and health and safety regulations.
  • Proven ability to work within a fully integrated, multi-discipline design team.
