About the Role

This exciting position is for a passionate senior mechanical engineer with experience of working within the nuclear sector in the UK. You will typically have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and be chartered with the Institute of Mechanical Engineers. You’ll be part of an enthusiastic and committed team of Engineers and Designers working to deliver high quality output on projects. As well as possessing excellent technical skills, client care and repeat business is crucial to BakerHicks success, so you’ll need to be able to develop and nurture relationships with our clients (both internal and external).

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Provide engineering services design and consultancy work on behalf of Baker Hicks under the direction of the line manager or project lead.
  • Produce design deliverables (including calculations, specifications, and reports), site surveys, construction stage duties, client liaison with members of design/construction teams, costing and ensure progress against the project brief
  • Liaise with vendors and manage the delivery of vendor packages.
  • Contribute to the development and mentoring of our Early Careers population and the continuous improvement of departmental capabilities
  • On occasion, manage Mechanical Engineering involvement in small to medium-size projects, including time, cost, quality and client relationship management and delivery.
  • Compliance with company quality management and legislative requirements
  • Supervision of Engineers, Early Careers and Designers in the production of design deliverable.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Membership of Institute of Mechanical Engineers
  • Chartered Engineer Status
  • Demonstrable experience of design and engineering in the nuclear sector
  • Experience of both concept / front end design, detailed design and package management
  • Experience of developing equipment datasheets and specifications
  • Experience of carrying out Technical Bid Analysis

Desirable

  • Experience of process mechanical handling equipment – conveyors, lifting devices, inspection methods
  • Knowledge and experience of materials of construction selection
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary design team
  • Experience of managing small teams from Apprentices and Graduates to Engineer and Technician level.
