The Opportunity

Baker Hicks provides a Managed Service to support a major Defence Contractors Configuration Management function. Based on the clients sites, we provide support to Document Management & Administration / CAD / BIM / Surveying / Tooling with a team of approximately 70 people.

For reasons of sustainability of service and a part of our succession planning, we have identified the need for a Land/Utility Survey Apprentice.


Key Objectives of this position

  • Complete a 3-4 year apprenticeship on day release at a relevant College or University
  • Gain experience in measured surveys of land, buildings and utilities as part of an existing Survey Team.
  • Cartographic production and configuration/improvement of Topographic & Utilities baselines
  • Align with the RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) guidance for measured survey of land, buildings and utilities and PAS128:2022 specification.


What you will do

  • Assist in carrying out land, measured building, laser scanning and underground utility surveys.
  • Support survey team on a daily basis on a variety of surveys
  • Administration activities scanning of mark-up prints, loading of drawings into document management system, de-framing of drawings for issue.
  • Prepare project files for survey team
  • Printing and plotting of survey drawings and preparation of drawing packs for issue
  • Filing of office paperwork (hard copy / electronic)
  • Publish new Record Drawings
  • Archive documentation
  • Ensuring Survey kit is kept clean and tidy
  • Working with the team to continually improve the service, its delivery by means of best practice, new techniques and initiatives to drive improvement and efficiency
  • Providing support to the CAD teams for administrative tasks
  • Update/amend CAD Drawings using appropriate software
  • Provide support to the BIM teams, field to finish in laser scanning projects

Requirements

  • Good standard of education at GCSE level or above with a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade C or above (or equivalent) including Maths and English
  • Level 3 or Level 4 Apprenticeship in a Survey related subject suitable to gain acceptance onto a Level 4 or Level 6 apprenticeship would be beneficial
  • Training will be provided in all aspects of Measured Survey
  • Must be willing and able to obtain SC clearance
