About the project
Our Highways team delivers everything from high-profile national projects to local schemes, whether it's new or enhanced links or renewal of existing infrastructure. We improve road journeys for people every day. Our projects are built on being a responsible business, protecting people and delivering benefits to the environment and the local communities.
We currently have a range of live projects across the Country and use a range of approaches:
- Tier one supplier where we are the main contractor on the project working with our supply chain partners to deliver the project on behalf of National Highways.
- Joint Ventures and Alliances where we work with other Main Contractor partners to deliver a programme of works for the National Highways Smart Motorway Programme.
- National Highways Scheme Delivery Framework enables us to work with other suppliers to deliver smaller projects on England’s motorways and main A roads
- Local Authority projects such as widening the A423 and replacing a bridge over the railway for Oxford City Council.
The Commercial Graduate role is UK wide and could be based at any of sites so the ability to travel is a must.
What will you be doing?
During your 2 year Graduate Programme you will be involved in:
- Contracts and procurement: recording and monitoring variations to the contract and ascertaining the time and cost impacts involved.
- Measurement: Measuring works scope both from design and on site also involves recording progress and valuing the work, based on agreed contract rates.
- Cost forecasting: This involves forecasting the final costs of projects or work packages. You will review tender documents, contract variations, and use this to calculate the final figure payable.
- Monitoring profit and loss against agreed scheme budgets: This involves compiling monthly reports to show the progress of a project. Tasks include recording costs incurred and future costs, producing summaries showing monies coming in and out, monitoring risks, and reporting on factors likely to affect profitability.
- Supporting our Project Teams in the identification & management of Risks and Opportunities throughout the life cycle of the project.
- Liaising with customers and with our Supply Chain Partners: Attending meetings to advise and progress any issues that arise.

What qualifications do I require?
A degree accredited by a chartered body (e.g. ICE, CIOB, RICS) at lower second or above
Ability to travel or drive to site locations if needed
You will need the ability to:
