Construction Electrical Engineer. (Project Engineer) 

Location: Cumbria 

An Electrical Engineer is required to support the Construction Section Manager (CSM) in the execution of their duties on SRP SPRS Modifications and Infrastructure Services Projects within Programme and Project Partners (PPP).

Key Responsibilites

  • Ensure controlling documents submitted by Contractors for review and endorsement are commented on prior to the commencement of work and that monitoring of the Contractor compliance with the controlling document is carried out.
  • Manage the supply chain to deliver fit for purpose construction work scope to an agreed strategy and plan to meet or better the project baseline cost and schedule requirements without compromising safety or quality.
  • Provide technical construction expertise and input into Sellafield gated process activities, constructability programme, HAZCON, contract and risk management exercises and ensuring the outputs are embedded in the construction work scope and strategies.
  • For continued personal development in order to keep up to date with the latest construction techniques and technologies.
  • Support the CSM in the assessment, authorisation and maintenance of SQEP key personnel.
  • Assist with input and maintenance of the Construction documentation as defined in the SLMS.
  • Ensuring a proactive and proportionate approach to nuclear safety through quality and safety to ensure that they are optimised on the site.
  • Capturing, sharing and applying Construction LFE and shared best practice.
  • Input to records for use in adjudication on applications for contract enhanced or reduced payments.
  • Co-ordinate interfaces between contractors, designers, operators, work planners and Client at site level to ensure the flow of relevant information is uninterrupted.
  • Ensure that construction work allocated is supervised, checked and accepted to a specific verifiable standard, together with integration of this work with that of other Engineering disciplines.
  • When leading an element of the construction team supervise, guide and co-ordinate them in accordance with the identified procedures and instructions.
  • Reporting to the CSM as to whether work is effectively managed to time and cost.
  • Ensure that Contractors and their Supervisors are monitored on an ongoing basis and that Contractors Management take positive action to maintain safety, health and environmental arrangements to the highest possible standard.
  • Ensuring a proactive & proportionate approach to radiological, conventional and environmental safety to ensure that they are optimised on the construction site in accordance with approved construction documents.
  • Liaise with designers and project personnel to ensure correct interpretation of their requirements and obtain authorisation for modifications consequent upon site conditions. Raising Corrective actions and defect notifications as per the SLMS and ensuring the correct action is taken
  • To accept reject or require correction to construction work
  • To sign off inspection and verification documents in accordance with latest procedures.
  • To implement actions necessary to meet construction safety, quality, scope budget and schedule baselines.
  • To exercise day to day control over construction activities as defined in project documentation.
  • To assist CSM with monitoring contractors in relation to site, contractual and statutory requirements an ensure contractors are aware of their subsequent responsibilities. This includes as a minimum:
    • Agreeing to the Safe System of Work
    • Agreeing with stakeholders’ supervision requirements
    • Defining handover points for supervision such as weekend working or shift handover
    • Ensuring appropriate risk assessment is performed
    • Ensuring work progressing in line with Safe System of Work
    • Ensuring agreed supervision levels are implemented
    • Ensuring workplace checks carried out
    • Ensuring at handovers all the people fully understand their responsibilities
    • Carry out post job review

The Person

  • Preferably DV security cleared, or ability to achieve
  • Experience of delivery in an existing SL facility and associated governance such as PMPs.
  • SMSTS, IOSH Managing Safely Certificate or NEBOSH General, NEBOSH Construction 
  • Control and Supervision of Safe Systems of Work.
  • Knowledge of SLMS and PPP procedures.
  • Demonstration of Human Performance training.
  • Experience of delivering construction work on Sellafiled site or other complex, highly regulated sites.
  • Ability to work in a multidiscipline team environment.
  • Good management and collaboration skills, with the ability to motivate self and colleagues to achieve high standards of compliance.
  • Good operational planning and time management skills; able to manage projects simultaneously without compromising on standards and quality.
  • Sound knowledge of construction practices and standards.
  • Ensure that you take personal responsibility and accountability for your actions.
  • Always promote a professional and courteous image.
