About the project

M27 Junctions 5 – 7 Concrete Roads Framework

4% around 400 miles of motorways and Major A roads in England are concrete roads rather than asphalt known as tarmac.

Built in the 1960’s and 1970’s the concrete slabs have lasted longer and proved tougher than anticipated however are now nearing the end of their vital life.

This programme will update them and provide drivers with a more comfortable quieter ride for many years to come.

The M27 junction 5 – 7 in Southampton is one of the individual schemes that comprise National Highways’ Concrete Roads Reconstruction Programme, which is intended to extend the life of trunk roads and motorways constructed using concrete road surfacing.

The proposed works for this scheme involve the replacement of the existing concrete road surfacing with a flexible pavement construction. Additional work, comprising drainage reconstruction and replacement of the existing vehicle restraint system, will also be undertaken along the route.
