Opportunity:
Health & Safety Advisor Engineer to be involved in the Smart Motorway Alliance, National Emergency Area Retrofit on the M5, Junction 4a - 6. Working as part of bmJV Health and Safety team to improve project health and safety performance across the Smart Motorways Alliance (SMA) and supply chain. The post holder is to directly support the Framework Director and their teams to ensure that a consistent approach and the highest standards regarding health and safety are maintained. They will provide professional advice for the safe delivery and handover to the Client.

Principle accountabilities:
- Work with a team of H&S professionals to support project delivery with a focus on improving health and safety performance within the SMA.
- Provide advice and assistance so that others understand their health and safety obligations and how to achieve them.
- Advise and support the project teams on health and safety matters and assist them to discharge their duties.
- Ensure all bmJV health, safety and wellbeing campaigns, initiatives and improvements are effectively delivered throughout the project.
- To manage the planning and implementation of risk mitigation programmes including inspections, safety training/briefings and occupational health and safety compliance.
- Ensure investigations, reports, presentations and performance statistics are submitted accurately and on-time as directed.
- Ensure the identification and sharing of best practice, positive safety performance and learning from incidents.
- Collaborate closely with the supply chain to enable them to understand and deliver their commitments under the contract with regards to health and safety standards and take appropriate action when required.
- Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected in the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working to Morgan Sindall policies, standards and best practice requirements.
- Co-operate with bmJV in all matters relating to health and safety, including following safe working procedures at all times.
- Act as a role model for SMA’s vision and values and behaving in ways that are in alignment with them. Encourage and support others to do so too.
- Promote equality in the workplace and adopt appropriate behaviour when interacting with colleagues.
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Proven experience of delivering in a similar role and evidence of successful management in a complex organisation with multiple interfaces.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for the purpose of working collaboratively with internal stakeholders and potentially external clients/vendors.
- Qualified to degree level or equivalent level of education, with a NEBOSH Diploma or (S)NVQ level 5 or equivalent, in occupational health and safety supported by appropriate and relevant continuous professional development
- Grad IOSH
- Experience in infrastructure or construction environments.
