Job Title: SHE Adviser

Location: Whitehaven

About the Role:

Morgan Sindall Infrastructure's Nuclear Business Unit is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced SHE Adviser to join our team. In this role, you will provide subject matter expertise and direction to ensure continuous improvement in safety, health, and environmental (SHE) performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with SHE legislation, industry, and site standards.
  • Provide advice and support to management teams, employees, and partners, upholding our 100% Safe value and Perfect Delivery philosophy.
  • Execute duties outlined in the site SHE policy and procedures.
  • Report accurately and effectively on SHE matters.
  • Support and advise project management and staff on action/improvement plans and risk minimisation measures.
  • Conduct appropriate monitoring at work locations.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities and professional bodies.
  • Ensure compliance with the site IMS management system and associated arrangements.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of the SHEQ strategy and management system.
  • Communicate safety, health, environmental, and quality issues with management teams and individuals.
  • Compile and analyse local SHE statistical information to support action and improvement plans.
  • Monitor the SHE competencies of all staff and advise on any shortfalls.
  • Communicate effectively with other SHE staff, directors, and their teams on SHE matters.
  • Conduct SHE training in line with site requirements and employee needs.
  • Share learning and good practices locally, regionally, and across the project.
  • Maintain personal professional development regarding SHE legislation, technology, and industry best practices.
  • Foster a team-work approach to encourage cooperative working by being open and honest.
  • Recognise opportunities and give recognition where due.
  • Challenge and intervene constructively when our ‘safe’ value is compromised.
  • Build and maintain good relationships with regulatory authorities and other stakeholders.
  • Promote SHE programs and schemes at local and regional levels.
  • Ensure external training is competent and effectively delivered to meet our objectives.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Ability to work in a team environment, contributing across a project, site, or area.
  • Strong management skills, with the ability to motivate self and colleagues.
  • Excellent planning and time management skills; able to manage activities simultaneously without compromising standards and quality.
  • Ability to ensure standards and specifications are met.
  • Capability to collaborate with colleagues to enhance project and operational performance.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction practices and standards.
  • Specialist knowledge in chosen field.
  • Technical or Chartered member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) or general NEBOSH certificate.
  • Qualified to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent as a minimum.
  • Associate member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (desirable).
  • Expert knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Experience in construction and civil engineering techniques in a complex and highly regulated major project environment.
  • Familiarity with CDM requirements in the role of principal contractor.
  • Proficient in risk management.
  • Expertise in occupational health and behavioural-based safety.
