Role Overview:

As the Functional Engineering Leader, you will provide leadership and technical support across the Energy & Water Business Unit (BU). You will lead innovation, planning, energy resource, and plant allocation, and oversee the operations of our Training Centre. This is a senior role, reporting directly to the BU’s senior leadership team, where you will play a key part in shaping the strategic direction of our business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Contribute to the strategic direction and decision-making of the BU.
    • Role model positive leadership behaviours and drive a culture of excellence.
    • Collaborate across business units to share learning and best practices.
  • Technical Services and Innovation:
    • Develop technical services offerings for energy projects and manage the new training centre at Swynnerton.
    • Drive innovation, challenge the status quo, and oversee IP-related matters.
    • Ensure compliance with ISO 19650 processes and promote the use of digital tools.
  • Engineering, Planning, and Technical Services Strategy:
    • Develop and implement strategies for engineering, planning, and technical services.
    • Form strong relationships with delivery team operations leads, engineers, and planners.
  • Define and create engineering and planning communities and networks within the business unit, to promote knowledge sharing and peer support Quality Control and Assurance:
    • Ensure effective quality control across projects from pre-contract to completion.
    • Develop a technical lessons learned and best practice library.
    • Provide support for safety-critical competence and design management.
  • Resource and Training Management:
    • Oversee the safe and effective operation of our training centre.
    • Ensure comprehensive resource forecasts are in place for all energy plant and labour requirements

 

Qualifications:

  • Chartered Engineer with extensive experience in a senior engineering leadership role.
  • Proven track record of driving innovation and managing technical services in a large organisation.
  • Excellent management, organisational, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives and ensure high standards of compliance and quality.

About the Energy & Water BU:

Our teams work within the energy and water sectors helping customers make the most of their existing assets as well as building new assets to continually improve the UK’s energy and water infrastructure. We do this by putting our customers first, using innovative ideas and challenging the status quo.

We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.

Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair and refurbishment services.
