Managing Quantity Surveyor 

Cumbria

We are currently recruiting for a Managing Quantity Surveyor for the Edunp project on ISA. 

Role and Responsibilities

  • Provide commercial leadership across multiple work packages
  • Lead and manage a team of Quantity Surveyors, ensuring high performance and development
  • Ensure full compliance with company policies, procedures, and governance frameworks
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, ensuring robust cost control throughout the lifecycle
  • Deliver accurate cost forecasting and financial reporting
  • Review and negotiate contract terms, ensuring risk is managed and disputes are avoided
  • Manage supply chain relationships and oversee timely submission of valuations and final accounts
  • Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with project goals
  • Oversee tendering processes, subcontractor selection, and contract awards
  • Identify commercial risks and implement mitigation strategies
  • Monitor risk exposure and provide strategic advice to senior management
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, and contractors to maintain strong working relationships
  • Represent the commercial team in project meetings and provide commercial insight
  • Mentor and support junior QS staff, including performance reviews and training plans
  • Promote a collaborative, high-performance culture within the commercial team
  • Prepare monthly commercial reports and analyse financial performance
  • Support strategic decision-making through data-driven insights
  • Ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements
  • Maintain accurate records and support internal audits and reviews

What We’re Looking For

  • BSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent commercially related discipline
  • CSCS compliance
  • Working towards or holding professional membership (e.g. RICS, CIOB)
  • Strong knowledge of commercial systems (e.g. COINS, Sphere)
  • Proven experience in procurement, risk management, and contract administration
  • In-depth understanding of various forms of contract and current legislation
  • Demonstrated experience managing QS teams on large-scale infrastructure or utility contracts
  • Skilled in negotiation, dispute resolution, and account settlement
  • Experience working with schedule of rates contracts
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, including performance and development oversight
  • Excellent planning, time management, and multitasking abilities
  • Effective communicator with strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
  • Sound knowledge of construction practices, standards, and specialist areas
