  • BSc Construction Design Management

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Graduate Technical Services Designer to join our Manchester Pre-Construction team. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate with a passion for building services, engineering and design management to develop a career within the commercial office fit-out sector.

You will support the Senior Technical Design Manager and wider pre-construction team in delivering technical clarity, design coordination, and robust building services solutions across a wide range of tender opportunities.

This role is designed as a development pathway, with structured learning and support to enable progression into a full Technical Services Design role.

Responsibilities and key skills;

  • Motivated, proactive and eager to learn.
  • Logical, analytical approach to problem solving.
  • Honest, open communicator – willing to raise concerns or uncertainties.
  • Develop an understanding of building services fundamentals (mechanical, electrical, public health, fire, IT, audio visual & security systems).
  • Attend site visits, supply chain meetings and internal reviews to build technical awareness.
  • Familiarise themselves with industry standards (CIBSE, BSRIA, British Standards) and building systems commonly found in office fit-out.
  • Assist in the review of performance specifications, drawings and ER documents.
  • Carry out supervised site surveys to observe building services, plant conditions and co-ordination
  • Log incoming proposals, drawings, and clarifications for review by the senior team.
  • Assist in checking that supply chain proposals align with the tender brief.
  • Support identification of potential risks (access issues, plant constraints, compliance gaps).
  • Produce basic technical diagrams, schedules, or feasibility sketches under supervision.
  • Help collate information required for design briefs, building system reviews and strategies.
  • Work with commercial and design teams to ensure technical information is aligned with cost plans.
  • Join CPD sessions, training, and technical workshops.
  • Help organise and compile the pre-construction technical handover pack.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and specifications (with training).
  • Strong written skills for technical summaries and tender reports.
  • Basic AutoCAD exposure beneficial.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

This role will be part of our Foundation Programme (early careers programme).
