Are you a Payroll Supervisor with strong Excel skills and a solid technical understanding looking for a challenge? We have an exciting opportunity for you within our Shared Services team.

This role provides essential operational support to the payroll function and plays a key part in several major upcoming changes, including supporting the implementation of a new salary sacrifice company car scheme, transitioning to a new car scheme provider, and introducing payrolled benefits.

 

Role Responsibilities

  • Oversee the end‑to‑end payroll process to ensure accurate and timely payroll delivery.
  • Supervise day‑to‑day payroll operations within the Shared Services team.
  • Support the implementation and administration of salary sacrifice car schemes.
  • Lead the transition to new car scheme providers and manage associated payroll changes.
  • Support the introduction of payrolled benefits and ensure they are applied correctly through payroll.
  • Maintain compliance with HMRC legislation, statutory payments, and audit requirements.
  • Review and validate payroll data, reconciliations, and exception reports.
  • Ensure payroll records, employee data and benefits information are accurate and up to date.
  • Work collaboratively with HR, Finance, HMRC, pension providers and other third parties.
  • Monitor payroll controls, identify risks, and ensure all financial checks are adhered to.
  • Lead or contribute to process improvements, system upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide guidance, support and training to colleagues involved in payroll activities.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by preparing and supplying required payroll information.
  • Support testing, verification, and roll‑out of system changes related to payroll or benefits.

 

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in Excel, including data analysis and reporting.
  • Skilled in maintaining and updating payroll databases with an elevated level of data integrity.
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll legislation, HMRC requirements and statutory payments.
  • Experience supporting the implementation and administration of salary sacrifice car schemes.
  • Experience assisting with the introduction of payrolled benefits and understanding their tax implications.
  • Proven ability to deliver accurate and timely payroll processing for a large and varied workforce.
  • Ability to identify process improvements and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to uphold effective financial controls and mitigate risk.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to support and guide colleagues on payroll‑related matters.
  • Confident in managing relationships with HR, Finance, HMRC, pension providers and other third parties.
