We are looking for a motivated and ambitious Sub Agent to join our team on the MetroWest project, converting a freight line to passenger use and between reinstate a disused line between Bristol and Portishead. This is an excellent opportunity for someone keen to further develop their skills and take on increasing levels of responsibility. The MetroWest programme is being delivered for Network Rail with a value of £80m over two years, providing a major enhancement to the regional rail network.
Role Responsibilities
In this role, you will support the Project Manager with the day‑to‑day running of the project and sections of work, ensuring activities are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
- Manage day‑to‑day activities on the construction site to ensure the project is delivered in line with customer objectives.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety, ensuring all site activities comply with company policies and legislative requirements.
- Oversee quality assurance processes to ensure works are conducted to the required specifications and industry standards.
- Monitor and manage environmental impacts, ensuring all works are delivered responsibly and in line with environmental commitments.
- Control project costs, supporting effective budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.
- Lead and coordinate operational delivery, ensuring work is planned, sequenced, and executed efficiently.
- Ensure full compliance with internal processes, procedures, and external regulatory requirements.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication between project teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders to support collaborative delivery.
- Support effective coordination of site activities, ensuring resources, information and materials are available when needed.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Civil engineering experience within a railway environment.
- Civil infrastructure experience (essential).
- Relevant industry qualification (HND / HNC / BEng or equivalent).
- Valid CSCS card.
- SMSTS 5‑day certification.
- Strong knowledge of specifications and testing regimes relevant to general civil engineering.
- Hands‑on approach to the commercial and planning aspects of project delivery.
- Proven civil engineering and construction experience.
- Ability to produce and clearly explain accurate plans and drawings.
- Strong IT skills, confident using MS Office and relevant system applications.
- Sound understanding of construction methods, health and safety requirements, and legal regulations.
