We are looking for a motivated and ambitious Project Manager to join our team on the Great Grid Update framework, supporting the delivery of a major National Grid project valued at £55m and scheduled from January 2026 to April 2027. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a high‑profile programme while developing your skills and taking on greater responsibility within a collaborative team.

 

Role Responsibilities

You will lead the safe and efficient delivery of engineering and construction activities, ensuring strong planning, clear communication, robust commercial management, and high‑quality outcomes.

  • Manage all aspects of mid‑sized projects or single‑function sites, ensuring strong control of workload and team performance.
  • Make informed discipline‑specific decisions aligned with wider project and business objectives.
  • Deliver projects to scope, cost, quality, and programme targets, supporting a consistent Perfect Delivery approach.
  • Lead effective risk and value engineering processes, identifying, and implementing improvements.
  • Communicate project requirements clearly across internal teams and supply chain partners.
  • Provide strong leadership, motivation and guidance to project teams and technical support functions.
  • Champion excellence in health, safety, environment, and quality, promoting continuous improvement.
  • Support project planning activities and present progress updates and recommendations to key stakeholders.
  • Review financial information to identify opportunities for improved commercial performance.
  • Build and maintain positive customer relationships through initiative-taking engagement and review processes.
  • Ensure installations and services meet required standards and comply with all legal and company procedures.
  • Manage project risks and opportunities in line with governance, policies, and control mechanisms.
  • Drive service excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Control project costs effectively, ensuring optimal use of resources and accurate expenditure recording.
  • Lead by example, coaching and motivating teams while addressing performance issues where required.
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships, monitoring and reviewing performance.
  • Review and approve essential project documentation, including management, safety, and environmental plans.
  • Support senior management in achieving business plan objectives, budgets, and targets.

 

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, contributing across a business unit or area.
  • Strong management skills with the ability to motivate self and colleagues to maintain high standards of compliance.
  • Good operational planning and time‑management skills, able to manage multiple projects without compromising quality.
  • Ability to ensure standards and specifications are met.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues to deliver project and operational performance.
  • Sound knowledge of construction practices and standards.
  • Specialist knowledge within the relevant discipline.
  • Skilled in reading, interpreting, and developing detailed Scope of Works documents.
  • Ability to drive accuracy and clarity in project planning and execution.
  • Clear understanding of client operational standards.
  • Solid grasp of NEC (New Engineering Contract) frameworks and their application in project delivery.

About the Energy Business Unit

We have experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.

Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.
