We are seeking a dedicated Sub Agent to oversee construction activities on an SSEN project involving substation and underground cabling works near Inverness, forming part of the c. £120m Loch na Cathrach Energy Connection.

 

Role Responsibilities

As Sub Agent, you will ensure the effective management of the site to deliver the project in line with customer objectives, maintaining the highest standards of health and safety, quality, environmental performance and cost control.

  • Managing site activities and resources on a major energy project.
  • Ensuring compliance with engineering controls, contract drawings and specifications.
  • Producing risk assessments and method statements and delivering clear briefings to staff and operatives.
  • Liaising daily with the Senior Foreman regarding programme, resources, productivity and progress.
  • Leading the resolution of technical issues and driving improvements in progress and quality.
  • Setting clear site working parameters and monitoring performance.
  • Coordinating shift activities to maintain consistent and efficient operations.
  • Developing forecasts and monitoring performance against programme, quality, safety and environmental targets.
  • Producing accurate plans and drawings and clearly communicating them to the team.

 

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Civil engineering and construction experience; civil infrastructure essential, energy projects preferred.
  • Relevant industry qualification (HND/HNC/BEng or equivalent).
  • Valid CSCS card.
  • SMSTS (5‑day) certification.
  • Strong knowledge of specifications and testing regimes relevant to civil engineering.
  • Practical understanding of commercial and planning requirements within project delivery.
  • Ability to produce and communicate accurate plans and drawings.
  • Strong IT skills, including MS Office and other relevant systems.
  • Solid understanding of construction methods, health and safety requirements and legal regulations.

About the Energy Business Unit

We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.

Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.
