Technical Manager (Under Ground Cabling)

We are looking for a Technical Manager with strong understanding of HV/EHV cable technologies and installation methods to join our team on the SSEN Framework where you will be supporting the delivery of a diverse portfolio of SSEN projects across the Highlands and Islands.
As Technical Manager for HV Underground Cabling the role offers an excellent opportunity to oversee planning, design, delivery and commissioning activities, ensuring technical excellence, safety, and compliance from pre‑construction through to handover. You will provide expert guidance during design and installation stages, support tender and bid development, review technical documentation, and function as a key interface with clients, designers, and project teams.
Role Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership during planning and development phases, including design coordination and ensuring compliance with project deliverables and timelines.
- Support the pre‑construction phase of tenders and bids with expert technical input.
- Review technical documents and specifications, collaborating with designers.
- Manage specifications for cable system components.
- Guide construction teams through HV cable and plant installation from pre‑construction to project completion.
- Consult with operational staff, protection engineers, and commissioning teams to resolve and manage technical issues.
- Support quality, safety, and environmental compliance in line with company standards and processes.
- Lead client liaison and stakeholder communication activities.
- Function as the technical interface between clients, designers and contractors, ensuring clear communication and client satisfaction.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Strong understanding of HV/EHV cable technologies and installation methods.
- Experience providing technical leadership and guiding construction teams through complex installation stages.
- Proven ability to manage stakeholder coordination and maintain effective client and subcontractor relationships.
- Effective communication, negotiation, and problem‑solving skills.
- Able to work both autonomously and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to balance challenges while managing client and project team expectations.
- Demonstrates professionalism, diplomacy, and objectivity under pressure.
- CITB Site Management or equivalent
- CSCS Accreditation
