Knowledge Manager – 12 Month Secondment

Location: Flexible, regular travel will be required across MSI sites

Our Vision: Together, we share knowledge; inspiring better ways of working, innovation, and driving progress for all.

Role Overview

This is a secondment opportunity for 12 months. We are looking for an individual with great enthusiasm and a desire to develop new skills, to continue the journey of evolving how Knowledge Management works across Morgan Sindall Infrastructure.

The role will lead in developing and embedding Knowledge Management approaches across MSI. They will be responsible for facilitating, improving, and sustaining how knowledge is captured, shared, and used across the organisation. In this iteration, we are seeking an individual who will look at the culture change required to foster behaviours, mindsets, and practices that increase approaches that value learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

The Knowledge Manager will pick up the work done today to evolve the Knowledge Hub, working at the intersection of people, process, and technology to ensure critical knowledge is accessible, trusted, and embedded in daily work, while helping teams shift toward more open, knowledge-sharing ways of working.

Responsibilities

Change & Engagement

  • Develop and lead initiatives that encourage a culture of learning, collaboration, and transparency
  • Identify cultural barriers to knowledge sharing and design interventions to address them
  • Act as a change agent, modelling desired behaviours and influencing stakeholders at all levels
  • Support leaders and teams in embedding knowledge-sharing practices into everyday work

Facilitation & Collaboration

  • Facilitate workshops, discussions, and collaborative sessions focused on learning and knowledge exchange
  • Build strong relationships across departments / business units to understand knowledge needs and priorities
  • Serve as a connector between people, helping knowledge flow across silos

Measurement & Continuous Improvement

  • Define and track metrics to assess knowledge-management effectiveness and cultural adoption including active participation in the IMS governance group and embedding new processes and standards.
  • Gather feedback and use insights to continuously refine knowledge practices and tools
  • Stay informed on emerging knowledge-management and organisational-change practices

Knowledge Collection, Curation and Enablement

  • Design and improve workflows for capturing tacit and explicit knowledge from individuals, teams, and projects
  • Ensure knowledge is organised, curated, and maintained so it remains relevant, usable, and easy to find using the Knowledge Hub; review future methods for enabling this alongside other business improvement projects (e.g. adoption of AI).
  • Promote reuse of knowledge and reduce duplication of effort across teams
  • Partner with subject-matter experts to consider methods of translating complex information into accessible, user-friendly formats

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate ideas into practical actions
  • Want to explore new ideas, try new things and ‘give things a go’
  • Ability to influence and work across diverse teams
  • Passionate about developing Knowledge Management in MSI and the ability to communicate the benefit of this

Preferred

  • Have and/or want to develop facilitation and stakeholder-engagement skills
  • Shown willingness to get involved in projects outside the ‘day job’
  • Interest in knowledge-management systems, collaboration tools, and content-management platforms

Key Competencies

  • Strong listening skills and communication skills
  • Collaboration and relationship-building
  • Curious in exploring new ideas and approaches; adaptable
  • Strategic thinking paired with practical execution

Support you will receive

As this is a secondment opportunity for up to 12 months, we want you to hit the ground running. Knowledge Management is sponsored by Carole Bardell-Wise (SHEQ Director) and Olivia Perkins (Managing Director – Rail) – you will have regular check-ins with the sponsors to help guide you in approach and connect you to the right people. On appointment, we will support you in developing a plan for the next phase of knowledge management, including any training and wider function support you need to get the most out of your time in the role.

Success in This Role Looks Like

  • Knowledge is increasingly consistently captured and reused across the organisation
  • Knowledge-sharing practices are embedded into everyday workflows, not treated as extra work
  • Employees actively contribute to, and utilise shared knowledge resources
  • Leaders and teams demonstrate behaviours that support learning and collaboration
