Assistant Cost Manager

We are seeking a motivated and ambitious individual to join our team on the National Grid Great Grid Upgrade Framework, supporting the delivery of a diverse programme of high‑profile schemes. This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone eager to develop their skills, take on increasing responsibility, and play a key part in the successful delivery of major infrastructure works.
You will be working on the PTNO/PTC1 (Pentir to Trawsfynydd) project, contributing to a significant programme that forms part of National Grid’s long‑term investment in strengthening and modernising the UK’s energy network.
Role Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support to the commercial team.
- Ensure correct cost codes are used across all plant and material requisitions and purchase orders.
- Generate system accruals for material deliveries and plant hire.
- Complete timesheets for weekly‑paid resources.
- Perform general accounts administration duties.
- Use accounts systems effectively, supported by an understanding of purchase ledger processes.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Experience using accounts systems with a solid understanding of purchase ledger processes.
- Experience working with COINS (or similar construction/commercial systems).
- Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
- Strong planning, organisation, and time‑management abilities.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Confident contributing across projects, sites, or operational areas.
- Strong written communication, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Commitment to maintaining standards and ensuring specifications are met.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues to support project and operational performance.

About the Energy Business Unit
We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.
Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.
