We are seeking a driven and ambitious Senior Quality Engineer to support the Great Grid Upgrade (GGP) within the National Grid Framework. In this key role, you will contribute to the successful delivery of a variety of high‑profile energy schemes, working as part of a collaborative and forward‑thinking team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced quality professional looking to further develop their expertise and take on greater responsibility within a major national infrastructure programme.

 

Role Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise to drive continuous improvement in line with external standards and the Integrated Management System (IMS).
  • Produce Quality Plans that align with project and client requirements.
  • Develop Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) in accordance with specified standards.
  • Generate and maintain Lifetime Quality Records (LTQR).
  • Create inspection forms and documentation to support site activities.
  • Conduct site inspections in line with ITP requirements.
  • Provide guidance and interpretation of contract specifications.
  • Apply and uphold quality grading systems (e.g., Level 1 to Unclassified).
  • Produce defect and non‑conformance reports, and lead on root cause analysis.
  • Conduct supplier audits (Lead Auditor qualification desirable).
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and the supply chain.

 

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience in major civil, steelwork, mechanical and electrical activities (desirable).
  • Strong knowledge of BS18001, ISO14001 and ISO9001 management systems and their practical implementation.
  • Awareness of welding and non‑destructive testing (NDT) techniques (desirable).
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
  • Degree‑level education or equivalent in a relevant subject area.
  • Proven experience in a senior quality engineering role with the ability to work proactively and take on increasing responsibility.

About the Energy Business Unit

We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.

Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.
