Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Lead, coordinate and oversee multidisciplinary programmes from initiation to completion, with specific focus on construction management.
  • Deliver business unit contracts to the highest standard while maximising operational performance and profitability.
  • Ensure all activities align with the company management system (CMS), industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide clear communication across teams to ensure delivery targets, project imperatives and operational priorities are understood.

People, Culture and Team Development

  • Manage, recruit and develop teams to ensure resource capability meets programme needs.
  • Build an inclusive, supportive, high‑performing culture across operational teams.
  • Encourage collaboration, continuous learning and open communication.
  • Provide positive, accessible leadership to both internal colleagues and external partners.

Customer and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build productive, respectful and professional relationships with customers, ensuring requirements are met and consistently aiming for “recommended” status.
  • Act as an ambassador for Morgan Sindall, supporting new business opportunities and contributing to tender activities where required.
  • Work closely with senior management to set clear operational targets and support long‑term strategic objectives.

Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ)

  • Lead by example in delivering Morgan Sindall’s 100% Safe and Perfect Delivery targets.
  • Promote safe and sustainable working practices, ensuring full compliance with all legal, environmental and quality standards.
  • Champion continuous improvement across all SHEQ activities and drive excellence in regulated environments.

Commercial and Supply Chain Management

  • Ensure effective and efficient use of resources across operations to achieve profitable results.
  • Support robust commercial oversight, including monitoring value, assessing variations and achieving contractual entitlements.
  • Develop positive relationships with suppliers and subcontractors, promoting collaborative partnerships that improve delivery outcomes.

Risk, Quality and Continuous Improvement

  • Implement effective risk and value engineering processes to identify opportunities and address potential issues early.
  • Oversee quality assurance across programmes, ensuring work meets agreed specifications and standards.
  • Report operational performance to the Utility Services Board in a timely, clear and accessible manner.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree (or equivalent experience), ideally in engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered status (ICE/CIWEM/IET or similar) is desirable but not essential.
  • Recognised safety, health or environmental qualification (IOSH, NEBOSH or similar).
  • Strong understanding of project management principles and operational delivery.
  • Proven experience developing, leading and motivating multidisciplinary teams.
  • Extensive experience managing HSEQ in a regulated environment.
  • Solid understanding of commercial performance, value assessment and variations.

  • A proactive, collaborative and solutions‑focused approach.
  • Strong people‑management and leadership skills with a focus on inclusivity, communication and team motivation.
  • Excellent organisational and planning abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities without compromising quality.
  • Clear, accessible communication skills suited to varied audiences.
  • Strong negotiation, diplomacy and influencing skills.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with standards, procedures and specifications.
