They make strategic technical and commercial decisions, oversee senior engineers and subcontractors, and ensure compliance with programme, safety, and regulatory requirements in highly regulated environments. Accountable for functional performance and its impact on project outcomes, they drive planning, resource coordination, and risk management while providing leadership and assurance for high-quality, cost-effective results.
This role offers expert guidance on design, quality, and compliance, supports programme management, and ensures technical integrity from conception to completion. The Engineering Manager works closely with commercial teams, interpreting technical change, assessing cost and schedule impacts, and supporting contract management under NEC principles (or similar). They lead scope definition for engineering and construction activities, ensuring clarity, compliance, and alignment with project objectives.

Education: Level 6 qualification – BSc (Hons) or BEng (Hons) in Civil or Structural Engineering. MSc or MEng desirable.
Professional Membership: Chartered Engineer (CEng MICE) or equivalent or actively working towards chartered status. Active participation in affiliated professional bodies (e.g., Institution of Civil Engineers).
Certifications: Valid CSCS card, CITB Site Safety Plus (SMSTS or similar).
Experience: Significant senior-level involvement in engineering in infrastructure. Previous experience in project engineering, coordination, and technical assurance within regulated environments (nuclear preferred). Proven track record in managing design processes during tender and contract phases. Experience in large project tender teams, including price and quality adjudicated bids. Familiarity with joint ventures, alliances, and collaborative working models.
Technical Skills: Proficient in digital engineering tools (e.g., BIM), AutoCAD, and project management systems. Strong understanding of temporary works, construction sequencing and management of residual design and construction risk.
Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of construction methods, health & safety legislation, and regulatory compliance. Awareness of commercial aspects, including typical terms and conditions and procurement models. Experienced in the management, surveillance, and audit of assurance regimes.
IT Skills: Confident user of MS Office and project management systems.
