We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Section Engineer to join our team on the TKRE framework, working in partnership with National Grid to support the delivery of a range of exciting and complex schemes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to further develop their skills and take on increased responsibility within a high‑profile programme.
The TKRE programme consists of two distinct projects. The first involves reconductoring the Grain to Tilbury and Kingsnorth to Tilbury 400kV circuits. The second is a cable tunnel crossing under the Thames Estuary, which, although delivered separately, forms a key interface with the overhead line works.
As part of the TKRE overhead line scope, works include constructing one new tower and dismantling three existing towers at Tilbury, along with constructing one new tower and dismantling one existing tower at Gravesend at the tunnel interface.
Role Responsibilities
- Provide engineering expertise, technical support, and guidance to the project team.
- Produce accurate risk assessments and method statements to ensure safe delivery of works.
- Ensure all activities comply with health, safety, environmental and legal requirements.
- Plan, organise and supervise resources to meet programme targets.
- Lead by example, promoting strong safety and environmental standards.
- Monitor site works, resolving unsafe conditions and non‑compliance promptly.
- Maintain effective working relationships with customers, designers, and the supply chain.
- Advise engineers on efficient and accurate setting‑out methods.
- Check drawings and specifications for completeness and request missing information early.
- Ensure works are correctly set out with appropriate independent checks where required.
- Communicate clearly with foremen and gangers to ensure full understanding of requirements.
- Confirm verbal instructions in writing and maintain accurate records for additional works.
- Arrange formal checking of setting‑out and ensure all required documentation is completed.
- Ensure survey books and daily diaries are completed to a high standard.
- Complete inspection and test plans, verifying dimension accuracy and quality.
- Prepare and monitor four‑weekly programmes in coordination with the section foreman and wider site plan.
- Maintain an accurate daily site diary including variations, subcontractor attendance, and key discussions.
- Conduct material take‑offs and raise requisitions as required.
- Process and cost‑code delivery tickets, ensuring timely submission to commercial teams.
- Ensure material testing and sampling is conducted to specification.
- Order materials and maintain an up‑to‑date record of all placed orders.

- Strong ability to work effectively within a team across projects, sites, and operational areas.
- Good supervision skills with the ability to motivate yourself and support small teams.
- Strong planning and time‑management skills.
- Ability to work to required standards, specifications, and quality expectations.
- Able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a wider team.
- Sound knowledge of construction practices and relevant industry standards.
- Specialist knowledge in your technical field.
- Good written, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to follow clear oral and written instructions.
- Strong situational awareness with the ability to manage issues and challenges effectively.
- Willingness to seek support and guidance when required.

Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground.
