We are looking for a motivated and ambitious Quantity Surveyor to join our team on the National Grid Great Grid Upgrade Framework, supporting the delivery of high‑profile infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will join a dedicated commercial team delivering a substation project in North Wales, operating under the PTNO / PTC1 contract with National Grid as part of the Great Grid Partnership Enterprise. The role offers strong project exposure and genuine long‑term career progression.
Role Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of contract administration, including financial control, forecasting, CVRs, and supply chain procurement.
- Deliver accurate financial reporting to achieve agreed commercial outcomes.
- Manage subcontractor and supplier accounts contractually and financially to secure full entitlement under the contract.
- Place and administer subcontract orders, ensuring compliance with contract terms, accurate payments, and resolution of commercial issues.
- Monitor subcontractor performance against programme and budget.
- Prepare and submit applications for payment and invoices in line with WIP and cash flow targets.
- Produce cost value reconciliations and cash recovery forecasts aligned with business targets.
- Control internal expenditure, identifying opportunities to maximise value and reduce cost.
- Ensure full compliance with contractual, commercial, and financial procedures and systems.
- Support site teams with contract requirements and commercial guidance.
- Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships through ambitious standards of customer service.
- Consult with clients and third parties on variations, claims, and additional payments.
- Promote effective teamwork and support the development of commercial and contractual awareness within the team.
- Complete financial close‑out of projects in line with agreed financial timetables.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Experience with heavy civils essential; substation experience desirable.
- HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial discipline; RICS accreditation desirable.
- Holds an appropriate CSCS card.
- Strong knowledge of monthly commercial reporting, cost reporting, and budget/forecast comparison.
- Practical understanding of forms of contract and period cost reporting.
- Previous experience using COINS or similar commercial management systems.
- Proven experience in the commercial management of subcontractors, including procurement, valuation, certification, accruals, and cost/value allocation.
- Ability to manage and monitor subcontractor performance independently, including chairing regular commercial meetings.
- Sound understanding of cost allocation and cost control principles.
- Strong knowledge of construction practices, standards, and specifications.
- Effective collaborator with the ability to contribute positively to project and operational performance.
- Strong management, planning, and time‑management skills, capable of managing multiple activities without compromising quality or standards.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to motivate and influence colleagues to achieve high performance.

Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground.
