Assistant Cost Manager

We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Assistant Cost Manager to join our team on the National Grid Great Grid Upgrade Framework, supporting the delivery of a diverse programme of high‑profile schemes. This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone eager to develop their skills, take on increasing responsibility, and play a key part in the successful delivery of major infrastructure works.
You will be working on the TKRE project which is part of the National Grid Great Grid Partnership (GGP), contributing to a significant programme that forms part of National Grid’s long‑term investment in strengthening and modernising the UK’s energy network.
Role Responsibilities
Working as part of the Morgan Sindall GGP Finance Team
Working on-site alongside the project commercial and operational teams
Producing and managing weekly labour cost allocation and reporting
Plant and material GRN Process
Maintaining the hired plant allocation sheets on COINS
Co-chairing the weekly cost review meetings
Weekly cost reporting
Managing outstanding order process
Period end processing
Application for payment (AFP) support
Producing system generated accruals for labour, plant, and materials.
Complete timesheets for weekly‑paid resources.
Management of finance folders and documentation
Purchase Ledger Invoice costing, queries, and PPC compliance.
Ensure that the finance-cost procedures and controls are maintained and adhered to
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Experience using accounting systems with a solid understanding of purchase ledger processes.
Experience working with COINS (or similar construction/finance systems).
Microsoft Office skills, Outlook, Word, Adobe and particularly Excel.
Ability to create excel worksheets and reports.
Strong planning, organisation, and time‑management abilities.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Confident contribution across the project, sites, or operational areas.
Strong written communication, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Commitment to maintaining standards and ensuring specifications are met.
Ability to collaborate with colleagues to support project and operational performance.

About the Energy Business Unit
We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.
Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.
