Senior Quantity Surveyor

We are seeking an ambitious Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our team on the National Grid Great Grid Partnership (GGP) framework, supporting the delivery of the high‑profile Norwich to Tilbury (ATNC) project. This nationally significant programme plays a vital role in strengthening and future‑proofing the UK’s electricity network.
As part of the Great Grid Partnership, you will contribute to a long‑term programme spanning the next decade, working within a collaborative and high‑performing team delivering a diverse portfolio of major energy infrastructure projects. Role Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial delivery of projects within a designated geographic area, ensuring strong financial performance and contractual compliance.
- Produce accurate and timely commercial reports, forecasts, and strategic advice to support effective decision‑making.
- Manage all aspects of subcontract procurement, including administration, interim applications, variations, and final accounts.
- Oversee cost reporting, forecasting, and risk management to ensure financial control and visibility throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage upstream and downstream change control processes, ensuring all variations are captured, assessed, and agreed appropriately.
- Maintain the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of all commercial data, documentation, processes, and reporting in line with company standards.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with key project stakeholders, including client commercial teams and supply chain partners.
- Identify, manage, and escalate commercial risks or issues to senior leadership in a timely and effective manner.
- Support, mentor, and develop junior commercial staff, promoting best practice and continuous professional development.
- Deliver against internal and external commercial performance targets, contributing to overall project and business success.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of quantity surveying and commercial management processes and practices.
- Use finance systems, such as COINS, to maintain robust financial controls and accurate project records.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Degree‑qualified (BSc or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial discipline; working towards or holding professional membership (RICS or CIOB) is desirable.
- Demonstrable commercial experience within the construction or infrastructure sector.
- Strong background in heavy civil engineering works; experience within substation projects is advantageous.
- Essential experience working with NEC3 and/or NEC4 forms of contract.
- Previous supervisory or management experience within a project commercial or quantity surveying team.
- Ability to manage and develop a small team while reporting into senior leadership and contributing to strategic objectives.
- Strong commercial acumen with an initiative-taking, delivery‑focused mindset.
- Experience working within energy, utilities, or major infrastructure environments.
- Proficiency in using contract management systems such as CEMAR, FastDraft, or similar platforms.

About the Energy Business Unit
We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.
Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.
