Location: Sellafield Site, Cumbria


The Opportunity

Morgan Sindall Infrastructure is seeking a  Operations Manager to lead the safe, efficient and high‑quality delivery of operational projects at the Sellafield site.

The Operations Manager is accountable for the quality, timely and technical delivery of projects, ensuring all activities are delivered efficiently, effectively and in full compliance with regulatory, customer and Morgan Sindall requirements. The role will challenge existing working practices, drive continuous improvement and embed a culture of Perfect Delivery.

This role is on the IDP framework. 


Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Operational & Project Delivery

  • Take full accountability for the delivery of all projects, frameworks and contracts within the operational portfolio
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental legislation, as well as Morgan Sindall and customer procedures
  • Manage programme delivery, monitoring progress against agreed plans and managing change, delay and recovery actions
  • Challenge design and construction methodologies to ensure the safest and most cost‑effective solutions
  • Drive the delivery of customer outputs against agreed KPIs, aligned to the Perfect Delivery ethos
  • Ensure programme certainty and consistent operational performance

Leadership & People Management

  • Provide strong operational leadership and lead by example in delivering Morgan Sindall’s 100% Safe objectives
  • Build, develop and motivate high‑performing project delivery teams
  • Establish effective people management, performance and development processes
  • Manage the efficient deployment of human resources across the portfolio
  • Maintain clear communication at team and company level
  • Undertake team briefings and promote a positive, proactive culture

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with the customer
  • Act as an ambassador for Morgan Sindall Infrastructure with customers, public bodies and other stakeholders
  • Promote a continuous focus on improving customer perception and service
  • Secure additional work through excellent operational performance
  • Undertake customer feedback surveys and ensure actions are embedded

Commercial & Business Performance

  • Achieve profitable business results by adding value through integrated team working
  • Maintain commercial tension to drive efficiency and challenge existing ways of working
  • Produce accurate customer and internal monthly progress reports
  • Produce and present monthly Business Review Meeting reports
  • Input into trend analysis including defects, quality audits and client performance
  • Contribute to the Balanced Scorecard and attend monthly Morgan Sindall business reviews
  • Work closely with the Procurement team to ensure cost‑effective materials and delivery methods

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Develop and implement systems and procedures to embed and cascade best practice
  • Drive business improvement initiatives that encourage innovation and challenge
  • Motivate teams to achieve efficiency and performance targets set by the customer
  • Promote a “can‑do” mentality and forward‑looking approach to future challenges

Qualifications, Training & Technical Knowledge

  • Degree educated (or equivalent), preferably in an Engineering discipline
  • Chartered status (ICE, CIWEM or equivalent)
  • Significant experience in operations and framework management within regulated environments
  • Strong understanding of customer operating models and processes
  • In‑depth knowledge of legislative compliance including Health & Safety, environmental and employment law
  • Awareness of workload planning, commercial drivers and resource management
