We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Site Engineer to join our team on the SSEN Framework, supporting the delivery of a portfolio of complex and high‑profile infrastructure schemes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to further develop their engineering expertise while taking on increasing levels of responsibility within a supportive and high‑performing project environment. The role will be based on an SSEN project near Inverness, involving substation construction and underground cabling works as part of the Loch na Cathrach Energy Connection.

 

Role Responsibilities

  • Provide technical engineering support to ensure works are delivered safely, accurately, and in accordance with project specifications and programme requirements.
  • Set out engineering and construction works across company sites in line with approved drawings.
  • Interpret drawings and technical information, identifying and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Monitor site progress and report on performance against programme milestones.
  • Implement and maintain robust quality control procedures, ensuring works comply with project specifications and standards.
  • Promote and uphold exacting standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance always.
  • Plan, schedule, and organise site activities to meet project deadlines.
  • Supervise site operatives and subcontractors to ensure work is completed to required standards and customer expectations.
  • Select, requisition, and manage construction materials in line with specifications and project needs.
  • Maintain accurate material records and identify opportunities for cost‑effective improvements.
  • Prepare, complete, and submit project documentation and completion paperwork for client approval.
  • Manage and coordinate digital engineering data to support accurate record keeping and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with company health, safety, environmental, and quality management systems.

 

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience as a Site Engineer on civil engineering projects, ideally including EHV substation or similar controlled environment works.
  • Proven competence in dimensional control.
  • Experience delivering material reconciliations for FRC, ducting, and drainage activities.
  • Industry recognised qualification (HND, HNC, or BEng).
  • Valid CSCS card and five-day safety certification.
  • Strong setting out and levelling skills with solid knowledge of construction methods, safety standards, and regulations.
  • Confident in setting out earthworks and structural works.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD.
  • Good understanding of bills of quantities.

About the Energy Business Unit

We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.

Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.
