What will I be doing as a Safety Health and Environment Apprentice Technician?

As a SHE Apprentice Technician you will be able to work you will be required to visit and work across a number of our construction projects and offices across the Morgan Sindall Group companies on a rotation. The role could be based in one location or may involve travel across a range of contracts. The role will be partly office based and partly on site providing advice to others on how to work without harming themselves or others.

Working with the management and delivery team of the organisation to advise on the statutory health, safety and environmental requirements as they affect the company’s operations. You will assist the management team in ensuring that the legal and company SHE requirements are implemented. On a daily basis the SHE Apprentice Technician will assist to develop, review and check on the implementation of safe systems of work, deliver training (e.g. toolbox talks & inductions), investigate incidents, analyse data and present findings to the management team.  During your time you will be on rotation with other parts of our Morgan Sindall Group companies including Fit Out, Affordable Housing, Regeneration and Infrastructure which will increase your experience across all areas of construction.

Entry requirements are…

  • Enthusiasm for your chosen career path
  • You will need to have 5 GCSEs A*-C (9-4) or equivalent qualifications which should include English and Maths.
  • Apprentices without level 2 (GCSE) English and Maths and level 1 equivalent ICT will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment.
  • Ability to travel or drive to remote site locations
  • Ideally some exposure to a construction/engineering environment

Like all apprenticeships you will do day or block release with a chosen training provider which will be broken into 20% off the job training and 80% on the job.  There is a structured development programme we provide internally that covers a range of personal development and technical themes that supports what you learn on the job and at your with the training provider. All our training workshops are heavily practical and grounded in real life scenarios. We have a large community of apprentices, graduates and undergraduates currently in the business and plenty of experienced colleagues who get involved in supporting the programme.

Upon completion learners will be able to join the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) at TechIOSH level.

You’ll also be offered a professional scheme mentor, to help you expand student membership of your specific chartered body. 

Upon completion of a recognised academic or professional qualification/membership, you may be entitled to a monetary award from £500 - £1000, dependant on the qualification achieved.

This includes full membership to a technical institution or completion of a degree or apprenticeship in your relevant discipline.

Depending on your starting point, your salary will vary in line with the knowledge you bring and can be anywhere between £19,305p.a.-£21,547.50p.a. A benefit of our Early Careers Development Programme is continuous recognition over the 2-4 years with salary progression of up to a maximum 5% every 6 months.

You will also benefit from an annual travel allowance of £1,500 a year to help you with travel costs as well as Individual Private Health Care Cover with Life Assurance up to 4 times your basic salary.
