What will I be doing as a Graduate Design Manager?

First year you will be secondment working for our head office covering the 6 regional business units working for our Design Management and BIM Director.  After the first 12 months you will be working out of one of the following offices; Cardiff or Bristol (Central & West Region), Wakefield (Yorkshire and North East Region), Cambridge, Norwich, Ipswich or Chelmsford (East Region) as part of the area business within those regions so there maybe some relocation required.

As part of our 24-month graduate programme you will gain first class on-the-job experience in your role fully supported by line management and the wider network of skilled colleagues in the business. The graduate development programme provides key skills relevant to your technical discipline, personal development and professional body qualification.

A day as a Graduate Design Manager can look like:

  • Play a part in managing the project design resource and team profile at bid and delivery stages
  • Support the senior design manager to lead and provide a professional, comprehensive and sustainable design service for the customer and key partners / suppliers at bid and delivery stages
  • Manage and co-ordinate agreed specific elements of the design process through the RIBA design stages. Challenge those elements of the brief and bring fresh thinking, innovation and implement continuous improvement benefits to the projects at bid and delivery stages
  • Ensure understanding and compliance with design management departmental procedures at bid and delivery stages
  • Involvement with ‘design strategy’ and approach Assist the Senior Design Manager to set-up and agree design management regime with the design team
  • Ensure adherence to the design brief/scope of service and develop a comprehensive scope of service for key stages of project
  • Assist with design reviews and co-ordination meetings Assist with the implementation of the design strategy to deliver co-ordinated

What we can give you!

You will start off on a salary of £30,000.00 and a benefit of our graduate programme is continuous recognition over the 24 months with salary progression of up to a maximum 5% every 6 months.

You’ll also benefit from a Company Car or Car Allowance reflecting Morgan Sindall Benefit Grade and Individual Private Health Care Cover with Life Assurance up to 4 times your basic salary.

To add to our amazing package, upon completion of a recognised academic or professional qualification/membership, you may be entitled to a monetary award from £500 - £1000, dependant on the qualification achieved.

This includes full membership to a technical institution or completion of a degree or apprenticeship in your relevant discipline.

What you will need

You’ll need a minimum lower second degree in a relevant subject matter, this can include Architectural Technology, Construction Engineering Management, Architectural Design, Architecture and Construction Project Management with Building Information Modelling.
